Il Cassiopeia Project, located at the room (Cl, Sicily), is a significant intervention for the national energy supply, with an investment of approximately 900 million euros. The goal is to extract and process natural gas from the deposits Argo by Cassiopeia in the Canal Sicily, to feed it into the national network. The Gradito Oleodinamica company played a central role in the onshore phase, taking care of the construction of the gas treatment and compression plant, which includes approximately 20,000 inches of welds and 3 km of pipes.
The project was characterized by logistical challenges, such as limited space in the construction site area, and a high level of safety and reliability, using advanced technologies and materials compliant with international standards. The onshore plant, located in the biorefinery of Een to Gela, receives and processes the gas extracted from the deposits, without visual impacts or emissions, and distributes it to the national network via a submarine line.
This project is fundamental for the territory, not only because it contributes to Italian energy sustainability, but also because it enhances the local workforce and guarantees very high technological standards

Furthermore, the project involves the adoption of sustainable practices, such as the treatment and reuse of water used for pipe testing. The phase of commissioning ended with the achievement of “full operation” in December 2024, with final performance tests scheduled for January 2025.
The Cassiopea project not only improves energy supply, but is part of ENI's strategy to promote natural gas as a low-emission energy source, and represents a model of collaboration between the companies involved, underlining the importance of teamwork, professionalism and commitment to overcome difficulties. Rencopartecipa al progetto come membro di un Raggruppamento Temporaneo di Imprese (RTI) insieme aSolar Turbines, rappresentando in Italia l’azienda statunitense, unica al mondo a produrre turbo generatori e turbocompressori in catena di montaggio.
Il Progetto Cassiopea rappresenta una best practice per l’approvvigionamento energetico italiano, ma anche un modello di collaborazione tra eccellenze, di cui vogliamo sottolineare l’aspetto umano oltre che professionale.
